In 1989, a study found widespread gender bias in the Massachusetts state court system, with women comprising only ten percent of the state’s judges.

But by last year, The Boston Globe reports, this number had tripled, and the trend is expected to continue. In 1999, Governor Paul Cellucci appointed 26 judges, 10 (38.46 percent) of whom were women.
