The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld the validity of service of legal process by e-mail in Rio Properties v. Rio Int'l Interlink , a case in which a Las Vegas hotel and casino alleged claims of trademark infringement against a foreign Internet business entity. While the decision lets plaintiffs serve defendants with a simple mouse click, the court also noted problems of reliability associated with e-mail service.
