In his recently released resignation letter, Conrad K. Harper, a member of Harvard's top governing board, said he was angered both by the university president's comments about women and by his being given a 3 percent salary raise. He said his concerns "came to a head" over the salary boost. Harper, who is black, was the only minority on the board. A 1965 graduate of Harvard Law School, he's a partner at the New York law firm Simpson Thacher & Bartlett.
