    2Birds adds four partners in Asia as firm sets ambitious regional targets

    Bird & Bird has added four new partners in Asia as the firm sets out ambitious plans to expand its presence in the region. The firm has set a target for Asia to account for one fifth of total revenue and lawyer headcount in three to five years' time. Asia currently contributes 10% of the top 15 UK law firm's fee income – half of which comes from China – with the new target set at 20% for the region as a whole.

    Olswang ends US alliance as partner Cooley plans to ramp up UK presence

    Olswang and US tech leader Cooley have ended their alliance as the US practice weighs up options to launch its own presence in the City. Management at both firms decided to call time on their 18-month non-exclusive alliance at the close of last year, although they are continuing to work on ongoing matters. It is understood the pair discussed a more formal tie-up or merger in the UK before calling off the relationship.

    Bird & Bird is advising a group Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) shareholders on a £2.4bn lawsuit brought against the bank and a group of former directors including former chief executive Fred Goodwin. The firm is representing the RBoS Shareholders Action Group, which said it is bringing the lawsuit as a "last resort" after the Financial Services Authority (FSA) had failed to help them recover losses incurred by a 2008 rights issue.
