    Norton Rose snaps up Orrick Paris tax chief

    Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe's respected Paris tax head, Stephane Salou, is joining Norton Rose in a coup for the top 15 UK firm. Salou, who spent a period at the helm of Orrick's Paris office and is highly rated in the French market, will join the City firm's local office on 9 May.

    Howrey returns to Dewey for latest IP hire

    Dewey Ballantine has suffered another senior defection with the news that Palo Alto managing partner Jeannine Yoo Sano is quitting the New York firm to join the local arm of intellectual property (IP) leader Howrey. Sano, who previously co-chaired Dewey's IP litigation practice, will join Howrey on 1 May as a partner. She is the second senior IP partner to quit Dewey for Howrey in as many months, after fellow IP litigation co-chair Cano Carrano defected to Howrey's Washington DC arm in March.

    Ashurst has strengthened its French projects practice with the hire of Orrick Rambaud Martel finance partner Sylvie Perrin. Perrin, who joined the French arm of the City firm on Monday (16 April), focuses on project finance as well as asset finance and tax leasing. Prior to joining legacy firm Rambaud Martel - which merged with San Francisco giant Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe in January 2006 - Perrin was an associate with Watson Farley & Williams. She was admitted to the Paris Bar in 1997.

    US firms set to tap young talent after booming 2006

    US firms look set to maintain their expansive form in 2007 - and their increasing demand for UK trainees - with a select group of America's leading firms this month unveiling robust results for their London offices. Leading the pack, White & Case achieved a 38% rise in UK revenue to bill $172.2m (£88.4m). London profits per equity partner (PEP) also rose 67% to hit $1.28m (£657,000), against $764,000 (£392,000) in 2005.
