Rankings from French law publication Juristes Associes show that Taylor Wessing's French operations saw the steepest revenue drop in France, with turnover falling 35% from €23m (£20m) to €15m (£13m) in 2008-09. The figures show that the firm's local office, which last year saw 12 partners leave for Nixon Peabody in a move which resulted in litigation between the two firms, fell from number 35 to number 50 in the rankings as a result of the plunge.

Clifford Chance (CC) is advising French media conglomerate Vivendi on its surprise offer to buy Brazilian telecom company GVT Holding for $2.9bn (£1.76bn), writes The AmLaw Daily. Vivendi, which owns Universal Music Group and the video game company Activision Blizzard, plans to finance the deal with existing credit facilities it set aside for acquisitions, according to Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal. Marcus Billam is leading the CC team from the firm's Paris office.

The magazine's annual survey of US associates with three to five years' experience at law firms across the US shows Gibson Dunn, which features at number four in the rankings, is the highest placed AmLaw 100 firm, with only three of the 100 largest firms in the US making it into the top 10 for workplace satisfaction.
