    Stephenson Harwood tightens alliance with Singapore firm

    Stephenson Harwood has received approval to establish a Formal Law Alliance (FLA) with its Singapore partner Virtus Law, giving it a stronger foothold in the local market. The top 30 firm, which first opened its Singapore office in 1996, will now be able to offer a full service, integrated legal practice in the city state, with co-branding, joint billing and the sharing of offices premises.

    Freshfields Germany trio quit to set up arbitration boutique

    A team of arbitrators has left Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Germany to set up their own independent firm. Partner Christian Borris who is based in the firm's Cologne office, is leaving the magic circle firm to set up the boutique along with Frankfurt-based partner Sebastian Kneisel and associate Rudolf Hennecke. The new firm - Borris Hennecke Kneisel - will open in May.

    Two more quit BLP's finance team as new boss faces tough job to stem partner exits

    Berwin Leighton Paisner's (BLP) finance practice has had something of a revolving door recently, with the announcement of a new practice head last week prompting yet more departures. Since September a total of 13 partners have left BLP – a mix of voluntary and forced moves – with the majority coming out of the finance team. Two more – structured finance partner Lucy Oddy and real estate finance partner Andrew Flemming – are expected to hand in their notice next week. Things started to look precarious when, following months of speculation about a significant drop in profitability, BLP finally revealed its 2012-13 financial results in September. Profit per equity partner (PEP) had plummeted 39% to £401,000, while net profit had fallen 38% to £39.4m.
