Eversheds and Baker Botts have landed key roles on Siemens' joint venture with energy services company Wood Group, which will create a $1bn (£624m) oil and gas rotating equipment business. Aberdeen-based Wood Group is spinning off the majority of its maintenance and power solutions operation into a joint venture with the German company.

Baker & McKenzie, Herbert Smith Freehills and Hogan Lovells are among a raft of firms to have won spots on China Resources' first international legal panel. The state-owned conglomerate has appointed about 10 firms to the panel, although it would not confirm the exact number. The panel is subdivided into practice areas that include M&A and litigation. Other successful firms include King & Wood Mallesons, Davis Polk & Wardwell and Reed Smith, along with the magic circle quartet of Allen & Overy, Clifford Chance, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Slaughter and May. Between five and 10 firms have been allotted to each practice area, depending on demand.

Reed Smith has claimed to have won new mandates through a programme that allows its lawyers to market the escrow services of several of its clients to other companies. The firm – which acts for many prominent global corporate trust companies that provide escrow services including Bank of New York Mellon and Capita – has developed a tool for its lawyers to link those providers with existing clients. Reed Smith said the tool had led to a large number of referrals for its clients' businesses and new clients for the firm, and had strengthened its relationships with existing clients.

Weil Gotshal & Manges and Travers Smith have taken the leading roles on US buyout firm Providence Equity Partners' acquisition of Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG). Providence bought the stake in the live-theatre operator, which hosts West End musicals including The Lion King and Wicked, from a group of current investors led by Exponent. The deal is estimated to be worth around £450m.

Davis Polk & Wardwell, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Morrison & Foerster (MoFo) have advised as Chinese retailer Wumart Stores agreed to take a minority stake in Thai supermarket chain CP Lotus for HK$2.3bn (£185m). The deal will see Wumart take possession of 36 Lotus supermarkets in mainland China including those in Beijing and Shanghai, but will not include Lotus' stores in the Guangdong and Hunan provinces.
