    US law firms grew their partner count in the City by close to 10% during 2011 as they continued to increase their share of the European legal market. Legal Week's research into the hiring activity and penetration of US firms in London found total partner count at the 45 US and transatlantic firms in London taking part in the survey increased by 91 in the year to January 2012, to 1,199.

    Partner hiring by US firms in London increased by over 25% in 2011, with firms adding more partners to their City bases than at any time over the last five years. Legal Week's annual survey of hiring trends at the City operations of some of the largest US and transatlantic firms found there were 116 partner hires during 2011 across the 45 firms taking part in the survey. The overwhelming majority of these (101) were partners at their previous firms.

    A quartet of elite New York law firms saw revenues grow last year, as details of the 2011 financial performance of America's top firms continue to emerge, reports The Am Law Daily. The biggest of the four, Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom, saw revenue increase 3% to $2.17bn (£1.38bn), while profits per partner (PEP) rose 7% to $2.48m (£1.58m).

    A trio of law firms have won roles on the latest listing of an Italian fashion brand as luxury brand Brunello Cucinelli gears up to launch a Milan initial public offering (IPO). Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom, Shearman & Sterling and NCTM are all advising on the proposed listing of the cashmere clothing fashion brand, which comes after Italian brands Salvatore Ferragamo and Prada concluded listings last year in Italy and Hong Kong respectively.

    Misys GC takes acting CEO role amid £2bn merger

    FTSE 250 technology company Misys has handed general counsel Tom Kilroy a role on the company's board as acting CEO amid £2bn merger negotiations with Swiss rival Temenos. Misys announced the appointment on 8 February after former chief executive Mike Lawrie's resignation from the company. Kilroy (pictured) has taken over the CEO role with immediate effect, although Lawrie will remain at Misys until 31 March this year.

    K&L Gates is set to merge with Italian firm Marini Salsi Picciau Studio Legale, giving the firm its first presence in the country.
