Simmons & Simmons' London corporate practice is to see two partners depart, with Gavin Weir set to leave next month to join White & Case, while US securities partner Daniel Winterfeldt quit the firm in December. Weir will formally leave Simmons at the end of February to become the ninth M&A partner in White & Case's London office. He has been a partner at Simmons since 2006, when he joined from Allen & Overy.

Clifford Chance (CC) and Mayer Brown have taken lead roles on JP Morgan's £495m acquisition of Lehman Brothers' former London headquarters. The 25 Bank Street building in Canary Wharf will now serve as JP Morgan Investment Bank's new European headquarters, with the bank granted a 999-year lease on the building, which has more than one million sq ft of floor space. The building's current tenants include the Financial Services Authority, NYSE Euronext and Jones Lang LaSalle. However, it will be completely vacated by March this year and will then be occupied exclusively by JP Morgan.

Liverpool FC's former owners are set for a return to the High Court in the latest twist in the long-running saga over the takeover of the football club. US businessmen Tom Hicks and George Gillett, who are being represented by City firm Peters & Peters and Paul Girolami QC of Maitland Chambers, are due to return to the High Court on 9-10 February next year. Hicks and Gillett are seeking to overturn an anti-suit injunction granted by Mr Justice Floyd in the High Court on 14 October, which dismissed a restraining order taken out in Texas by the pair to block the sale of the club.

A line-up of US firms have taken roles on Caterpillar's $7.6bn (£4.7bn) acquisition of mining equipment manufacturer Bucyrus International, reports The Am Law Daily. Mayer Brown advised Caterpillar on the the all-cash transaction - which when including debt, is valued at $8.6bn (£5.4bn) - with a team led by Chicago M&A partners John Sagan and William Kucera. Last month Mayer Brown advised Caterpillar on its €580m (£517m) acquisition of German engine maker MWM Holding, a deal with also handed roles to Clifford Chance and SJ Berwin.
