Bird & Bird has bolstered its London corporate group with the double partner hire of Richard Eaton and Struan Penwarden from Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe. The duo is expected to join Bird & Bird's corporate group in London towards the end of the month, having been at Orrick since October 2008.

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) has charged seven people in relation to alleged insider dealing in the latest crackdown on market abuse by the City watchdog. The group faces charges on 13 counts of insider trading following a 21-month investigation which relates to dealing in shares of 12 companies, including Morgan Crucible, Misys, Reuters and Enodis, between 2006 and 2008. According to the FSA, activity during the two-year period involved alleged unlawful profits of around £2.5m.

Margaret Sheehan is set to join Ashurst after resigning from US law firm Alston & Bird. Sheehan has worked as a partner at Alston since 1996 in the firm's financial services and products department and will join Ashurst as a partner in its financial regulation group.

Stephenson Harwood has bulked up its Hong Kong office with the hire of Audrey Shum, who will join from Clifford Chance (CC) as a partner in the firm's intellectual property (IP) department on 24 February. Shum, who specialises in both contentious and commercial IP work, was with CC for around six years, most recently as a consultant. She previously worked at Bird & Bird. Her hire takes Stephenson Harwood's Hong Kong IP practice to two partners.

Bird & Bird has re-elected its senior management team, with chief executive David Kerr and chairman Michael Frie both seeing their terms extended for another three years. The new terms are effective from mid-March. Kerr has been CEO at the City firm for the last 14 years, while Frie's re-election means he will take on a second term as chairman. He joined Bird & Bird in 2000 when it merged with Stockholm firm Gedda & Ekdahl, where he was managing partner.

Fitz, who will join BT at the end of March, was executive vice president, general counsel and company secretary at technology firm Misys from 2003 to 2009, before which he spent 12 years at Cable & Wireless in a number of roles, including group general counsel.
