    Sidley signs up Covington City tax man

    Sidley Austin has bagged a new tax partner in London, taking on David Hinds from the City arm of rival US firm Covington & Burling. Hinds, who was also a partner at Covington, will focus on fund formation work and fund-related transactions. Prior to joining Covington in 2002, Hinds was a partner at SJ Berwin. He is chairman of the UK branch of the International Fiscal Association.

    Cadwalader hit by 6% PEP drop as US firms' 2007 results emerge

    Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft and Morgan Lewis & Bockius are among a swathe of US firms to have announced their latest financial results, with Cadwalader the first firm to take a hit on its profits for 2007.Cadwalader reported a fall in profits per equity partner (PEP) from $2.9m (£1.48m) 2006 to $2.72m (£1.38m) this year, while overall revenue at the firm stands at $587m (£299m), up 5% from $556m (£283m) last year.

    New York giants lead on $19bn Citi fundraising

    Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton and Sullivan & Cromwell are among a clutch of US firms to have claimed advisory roles on a major finance deal that will see sovereign funds totalling $12.5bn (£6.3bn) dispensed to US banking giant Citigroup. Cleary and Sullivan acted as counsel to Citigroup, which has raised $12.5bn through private placements with investors including the investment arms of the Singapore and Kuwaiti governments.
