Leading Chinese firm Jun He Law Offices has bolstered its Beijing corporate practice with a hire from Weil Gotshal & Manges, marking the firm's fourth new partner addition since August. Jasson Han is set to rejoin Jun He as a partner, after leaving in 1993 to pursue a degree in commercial law. Since then, he has worked at Simmons & Simmons in London and Hong Kong, and then in Weil Gotshal's Beijing and Hong Kong offices as a partner-level senior consultant.

The deal, which closed last month (27 September), saw a vehicle owned by the Barclay brothers buy £660m debt of Maybourne Hotels Group – parent company of Claridges, The Berkeley and The Connaught – from NAMA.

CMS Hasche Sigle has overtaken Hengeler Mueller to emerge as the largest German law firm by revenue, with the 10 largest firms in the country seeing an average revenue rise of 4% during their last financial year, according to new research. The rankings, compiled by German legal publication Juve, show Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer retaining its position as the largest law firm in Germany with turnover of €334m (£286m), while CMS Hasche Sigle has passed Slaughter and May ally Hengeler with 3.9% revenue growth to rank second with revenues of €212m (£182m).

Weil Gotshal & Manges is set to be invited to tender for the Royal Bank of Scotland's (RBS') legal panel next year after completing its first-ever mandate for the bank. The US law firm's London office advised the bank on the $300m (£191m) sale of its shares in luggage manufacturer Samsonite, which floated in Hong Kong in June. Weil Gotshal fielded a team led by London corporate partner Mark Soundy on the transaction, which marks the US firm's first piece of work for the bank.
