    Weil Gotshal & Manges will pay its London newly-qualified lawyers £90,000 after boosting its salaries by 20% to pay the same level as many of Wall Street's elite. The mid-Atlantic firm internally announced the pay bands today (15 June) and has increased all other associate bands by around 17%. Salaries for three year-qualified lawyers have risen from £98,000 to £114,660.

    Weil Gotshal & Manges and Shearman & Sterling have bagged lead roles on the sale by General Electric (GE) of its plastics business to Saudi Basic Industries in a $11.6bn (£5.9bn) deal. Shearman advised the buyer, with firm co-managing partner John Madden and New York-based corporate partner Stephen Besen leading the team acting on behalf of Saudi.
