Former Halliwells partner Michael Burns has today (24 April) won a High Court case against the defunct firm's liquidators BDO. The ruling by Mr Justice Warren means the liquidator, which has been attempting to claw back money from ex-partners, will not be able to chase Burns after the judge found he was protected by the terms of his retirement deed.

Addleshaw Goddard is opening its first office outside of the UK next month with the launch of a new base in Singapore. The office, which will open for business in May, will initially focus on international arbitration but could expand to become a fuller service offering in future. The base will be led by litigation partner Jamie Harrison, who joined Addleshaws as a partner from US law firm Winston & Strawn in 2009.
