Pinsent Masons has moved to strengthen its financial services team with the hires of Richard Tripp and Monica Gogna from Eversheds and Clifford Chance (CC) respectively. Tripp, who will joins Pinsents' Leeds office on 29 April, is a restructuring specialist who has acted on several high-profile matters including the administrations of Little Chef, Pindar and Modus Group.

Pinsent Masons and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer have both played lead roles on Spanish infrastructure company Ferrovial's £385m acquisition of UK utilities and government services company Enterprise from private equity house 3i. The deal, which requires approval from the European Commission, will see Enterprise merged with Amey, the UK public services and infrastructure business purchased by Ferrovial in 2003. The combined company will have turnover of £2.3bn and a total of 21,000 employees – doubling the size of its UK infrastructure services footprint. It will offer services across the transport, utilities, justice, environmental services and facilities management sectors as well as consulting and asset management.

Dundas & Wilson is set to see the departure of another senior partner, with former managing partner contender Colin Massie to leave the firm. Massie, who joined Dundas in 1996 and made partner in 2002, is a corporate partner and the former head of the firm's sports law practice. His next move is not yet known, and Dundas declined to comment on the departure.

The Greater London Authority's (GLA) legal spend has increased more than 60-fold during the current financial year, following the transfer of responsibility for housing and regeneration work from the Homes and Community Agency (HCA). A freedom of information request submitted by Legal Week has revealed the administrative body headed by Mayor of London Boris Johnson spent £490,785 on legal services during the nine-month period from 1 April to 31 December 2012 – up on just £7,805 for the full 12 months of 2011-12.
