Herbert Smith, Fountain Court and Five Paper Buildings have taken roles on a high-profile action against PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) that has seen the accounting giant fined £1.4m. The proceedings were launched by the Accountancy & Actuarial Discipline Board (AADB) into the role of PwC's UK arm in not uncovering a failure by audit client JP Morgan to ringfence client money.

The Co-operative and Irwin Mitchell have confirmed that they are among the first applicants, while the SRA has said that it is in serious talks with a total of around 15 interested parties, with more than ten first-stage applications made via the website so far today.

Clifford Chance (CC) and Allen & Overy (A&O) have taken lead roles on a €3bn (£2.6bn) bond sale by the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF), the latest part of the financial assistance programme for Ireland. CC advised the euro-zone bailout facility EFSF as it launched the issue via a syndicate of lead manager banks advised by A&O. The sale is the first EFSF bond issue since eurozone countries renegotiated the size and terms of the facility over the summer in response to the heightened financial crisis, particularly in Greece.
