Thirteen law firms have won places on the first-ever panel created by four of Yorkshire's largest county councils. Firms including Addleshaw Goddard, Beachcroft, Walker Morris, Browne Jacobson, Weightmans and Bevan Brittan were appointed to the West Yorkshire Local Authorities (WKLA) legal panel at the end of last month. The firms have been hired for an initial three-year period with the option for a renewable two-year extension.

The new appointments, which are effective from 1 May, almost double last year's tally of five new partners, taking the firm's total to 185. Bank accounts are an obvious and fruitful avenue of enforcement for judgment creditors, and with good cause -they are a readily available pot of money held by a reputable institution that is likely to comply with any court order given to them. Banks holding money for a judgment debtor are the target of domestic enforcement action in the form of third party debt orders. These orders carry with them an administrative burden for the bank. While it can deduct a statutory sum of currently £55 from the debt to cover its expenses this nominal amount (if deducted at all) may not reflect the actual compliance cost to the bank.

The deal adds 25 lawyers and branches in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Taipei to UGGC's network of offices, which also includes outposts in Brussels and Casablanca. Adamas partners Franck Desevedavy, Olivier Dubuis, Olivier Lefebure, Alina Quach and Arnaud Depierrefeu all transfer to UGGC as part of the move.
