Lovells has strengthened its New York office with the hire of Stroock & Stroock & Lavan restructuring partner Christopher Donoho, the City firm announced today (30 April). Donoho, who joins Lovells' Manhattan arm tomorrow, represents bondholders' and creditors' committees, including during Chapter 11 proceedings. Dewey Ballantine has suffered another senior defection with the news that Palo Alto managing partner Jeannine Yoo Sano is quitting the New York firm to join the local arm of intellectual property (IP) leader Howrey. Sano, who previously co-chaired Dewey's IP litigation practice, will join Howrey on 1 May as a partner. She is the second senior IP partner to quit Dewey for Howrey in as many months, after fellow IP litigation co-chair Cano Carrano defected to Howrey's Washington DC arm in March.

Weil Gotshal & Manges' London arm has settled an estimated $100m (£50m) claim brought by the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS). Weil Gotshal settled the long-running dispute, which was based on the structuring of a collateralised debt obligation (CDO), last week (19 April) following brief discussions with the judge in charge of the case. The case was due to go to court this week (23 April).
