    Simmons regains prized role as MoD unveils new projects panel

    Simmons & Simmons has won back its position on the Ministry of Defence (MoD) major projects panel four years after being dropped from the roster. The top 15 City law firm is one of seven firms to be appointed by the MoD for a four-year term starting last week (10 January). Field Fisher Waterhouse is also a new addition to the panel while Wragge & Co, Pinsent Masons, Denton Wilde Sapte, Mills & Reeve and Shepherd and Wedderburn have been reappointed.

    Simmons rated as UK's most gay-friendly firm

    Four law firms have been included in this year's Workplace Equality Index compiled by gay rights charity Stonewall. The index, which ranks the top 100 gay-friendly employers in the UK, included Simmons & Simmons as the highest-ranked law firm in 15th place, up from 31st place last year.

    New research produced by PricewaterhouseCoopers has highlighted the growth of legal process outsourcing (LPO) services in the wake of the economic downturn. The study, which canvassed 514 outsourcing service providers in 50 countries around the world, identified legal services outsourcing as providing the highest cost savings - 44% - in comparison to other markets.

    Mark Richards, international operations chief counsel at US engineering firm CH2M Hill, is pleased to be back in the office. He recently returned from Abu Dhabi, where he spent much of last year leading the primary contractor selection on United Arab Emirates' nuclear power programme, which CH2M Hill is project managing - a baptism of fire to a job that Richards began in September 2008. It has been an interesting project, he says, but has not left much time to get to grips with the other elements of his newly-created London-based role.
