Beachcroft has failed to hit budget for 2007-08 after posting an increase in turnover of just 2.5% for the last financial year, with fee income at the national firm hitting £114m. The firm admitted that the performance was "less than budgeted" but stressed that the small rise in revenue had come off the back of a bumper 2006-07 that saw the firm break through the £100m turnover barrier for the first time.

Revenue at the top 10 UK firm jumped by 10% over the last 12 months, from £356m in 2006-07 to £390m for the most recent financial year.

A raft of firms including Norton Rose, Shoosmiths, Pinsent Masons and Ashurst have posted bumper revenue results for 2007-08. Norton Rose saw the most significant growth, with the firm posting a 27% increase in revenues, taking turnover at the top 10 City firm to a new high of £297m. The increase is significantly up on last year, when the firm posted an 11% rise, taking revenues to £233m while profits per partner rose by 15% to £512,000.

Pinsent Masons and DLA Piper are on the hunt for new London premises, becoming the latest national law firms to review their City presence.The two firms are actively looking for new premises in the City, with Pinsents hoping to unite its two offices - currently in Finsbury Square and Clerkenwell - under one roof, while DLA Piper is looking at a number of options for its London presence, including new office space. It is understood that if the firm does not go for entirely new premises it would have to have two locations in the City.
