The figures show that it took 8.7 years on average for lawyers to make partner this year, compared with 8.1 years in 2004. SJ Berwin has become the latest firm to announce a bumper crop of new partners, with the top 20 firm making up 16 new partners effective from 1 May. The City firm is making up its largest number of new partners to date, with nine of the promotions coming in London. Germany dominates the promotions on the Continent, with four lawyers being made up, while there are two new partners in Spain and one in Paris. The promotions mark an increase on last year, when SJ Berwin make up 13 new partners, eight of whom were in London.
