    CC matches City pace with 18% H1 growth

    Magic circle giant Clifford Chance (CC) is the latest to report its half year results with the firm announcing an 18% rise in H1 turnover for 2007-08, taking its revenue for the period up to around £680m. The percentage increase matches that of fellow magic circle firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and is ahead of arch City rival Allen & Overy, which recorded a 16% increase in turnover. The results put those firms' revenues for the period at £560m and £456m respectively.

    Pensions group unveils Pinsents partner as chair

    Pinsent Masons partner Alastair Meeks has been named the new chairman of the Association of Pensions Lawyers (APL). Meeks landed the role after an election by APL's membership, which now numbers more than 900 UK-based lawyers. London-based Meeks has been a pensions lawyer at the national firm for 15 years. His tenure at the APL takes effect from next week (16 November).
