    Slaughter and May and Norton Rose have taken lead roles on the potential £2.75bn takeover of AXA's UK life assurance business by Resolution. Slaughters is advising Resolution, the owner of life insurance giant Friends Provident, on its bid for AXA's UK life and savings operations which, if it confirmed, will be funded in part by a pre-emptive £2bn rights issue by Resolution.

    Deloitte survey shows Q4 fee income upturn for UK firms

    The UK's top 100 law firms have seen an increase in fee income of 4.6% for the last quarter of the financial year compared to the equivalent period in 2008-09. The latest quarterly survey from Deloitte also shows that chargeable hours for Q4 2009-10 were up on last year, rising by 8.3% per fee earner.

    Deutsche Bank has appointed a new general counsel for UK and Western Europe for the first time in over a decade. Emma Slatter, who most recently held the position of head of legal for fixed income within the global markets division in London, has taken over the role from Simon Dodds. Slatter, who trained at Slaughter and May, joined Deutsche-owned Morgan Grenfell in 1994.
