    Herbert Smith and Allen & Overy (A&O) have taken lead roles on a major Russian finance deal which has seen Gazprom Neft secure loans of up to $1.5bn (£963m). The oil unit of Russia energy giant Gazprom has lined up financing of $1.35m (£866m) so far, a figure which could rise to $1.5bn if more lenders are signed up. Herbert Smith is advising Gazprom Neft with a team led by Moscow-based energy finance partner Ed Baring.

    Linklaters has taken the lead role for BP as the oil giant moves to borrow $5bn (£3bn) by pledging sales revenues from two oil fields. BP has raised the multibillion-dollar sum via a banking deal involving oil revenues from two separate fields in Azerbaijan and Angola, with Herbert Smith advising the arranging banks on the $3bn (£2bn) Angola loan and Baker & McKenzie advising the banks on the Azerbaijan deal.

    Ex-DLA partner charged with payroll forgery sees two-month sentence cut

    A former DLA Piper Singapore partner who was sentenced to two months in prison for lying about his annual compensation when moving firms has had his sentence cut to just one day on appeal, reports The Am Law Daily. Rudy Lim, the former head of DLA's Indonesia practice, will now serve just one day in jail and pay a $10,000 (£6,400) fine. Lim was disbarred in the UK as a result of telling US firm Duane Morris that his monthly drawings at DLA were $65,000 ($41,000) rather than the true figure of $25,000 (£16,000).

    Bakers London office sees PEP jump 56% as firm reveals 2009-10 results

    Baker & McKenzie has posted its results for the last financial year, including a 56% hike in partner profits in the US firm's London office. Bakers took in firmwide turnover of $2.1bn (£1.3bn) for the year ending 30 June, marking a 0.4% drop on the figure reported last year. London revenues grew by 5% to $120.3m, while the office's PEP rose by 36% from £418,000 to £650,000.
