    BPP Law School has outperformed the rest of the BPP training group over the first half of this year, announcing a 17% increase in turnover and an increase in profitability of nearly 50%. The school released its unaudited results for the first six months of this year ending 30 June today (9 August), with turnover up from £16.65m for the equivalent period last year to a new mark of £19.5m.

    Freshfields Germany ups associate pay

    Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has bumped up its pay for German associates by €10,000 (£6,800) while also introducing a performance-related bonus that could see some first-years trouser in excess of €100,000 (£68,000), Legal Week can exclusively reveal. The magic circle giant previously paid first-year associates in Germany a base salary of between €80,000 (£54,000) and €95,000 (£64,600). However, from 1 November the firm will fork out between €90,000 (£61,000) and €100,000 to its junior lawyers.

Simmons took the lead for Shell under corporate partner Paul Exley as the fuels giant moves to sell its Berre l'Etang refinery to petrochemical group Basell. LeBoeuf advised Basell, led by Paris corporate partner Stephen Walters alongside London competition partner Peter Crowther and environmental partners Paul Watchman and Nicholas Rock.
