Accountants are beating lawyers in the race to support clients on the controversial Companies Act, according to new research, as advisers scramble to react to the sweeping governance reforms. A survey of more than 200 businesses across the UK has revealed that 60% of all business directors that have sought advice on the Companies' Act have turned to their accountant rather than a lawyer. The study, carried out on behalf of Leeds Legal, a partnership of Leeds' law firms, questioned small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) about the Act, parts of which will come into force in October.
