    Weil, Ashurst tune in for NBC's Sparrowhawk deal

    Ashurst and Weil Gotshal & Manges have bagged the main advisory roles on the acquisition by US media giant NBC Universal of UK pay-TV company Sparrowhawk Holdings, in a deal thought to be worth around £175m. Ashurst advised Sparrowhawk shareholders including 3i Group, Providence Equity Partners and TV impresario David Elstein on the disposal, which was announced yesterday (28 August). Corporate partner Andrew McMillan led an Ashurst team that also included competition partner Duncan Liddell, employment partner Caroline Carter and finance partner Simon Thrower.

    Fulbright takes Hart for latest City lateral

    Fulbright & Jaworski has made its second lateral partner hire in London in a month, as the Texan firm prepares to move to new offices with space to more than quadruple its City lawyer count. The firm has hired Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer projects partner Andrew Hart, who is thought to have handed in his notice last week. Hart, who made partner at the magic circle firm in 1999, specialises in energy and infrastructure work and has worked with clients including the International Finance Corporation - also a client of Fulbright in London - as well as ExxonMobil and Ashmore.

    Bryan Cave has launched its new Italian arm two months ahead of schedule. The Milan office - which represents the US law firm's first presence on continental Europe - opened earlier this month, well ahead of the expected launch date of 30 September.
