    College of Law tightens grip on market as BPP outguns relaunched Nottingham

    The College of Law has strengthened its standing with the upper echelons of the City profession, according to new research that gives it more than three times the support of nearest rival BPP Law School. The latest Legal Week/EJ Legal Big Question survey found that two-thirds (66%) of senior lawyers thought the College offers the best Legal Practice Course (LPC) training, compared with 21% favouring BPP, which drops from 23% last year.

    Anyone with teenage children will appreciate the problems in understanding exactly what makes them tick - and it seems that graduate recruitment is suffering from a similar syndrome. Since today's graduate recruitment partners were students, the economics and philosophy of higher education have changed radically, which in turn has significantly altered the outlook and priorities of students and graduates. These are the main findings of the inaugural Legal Week Intelligence Student Survey, which questioned more than 2,000 students at the Russell Group of leading UK universities, from which the vast majority of trainees are hired by commercial firms.

    Slaughter and May best friend Bredin Prat has hired former Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe Paris managing partner Raphaele Courtier as the firm looks to build its finance capabilities. Courtier, who joined the Paris leader last week (1 March), was a partner in Orrick's finance practice. She was appointed to head Orrick's Paris arm in July 2004, before handing the role over at the end of 2005.
