News out of the Department of the Treasury ensured some on Capitol Hill a very unhappy start to 2025.
In a December 30 letter to the chair and ranking member of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, the federal agency reported that it had suffered a cyber breach after hackers gained access to a security key used by third party vendor BeyondTrust. Treasury attributed the hack to an unnamed Chinese state-sponsored actor and said the hackers gained access to user work stations and unclassified documents.
