After 32 years in government, former U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley, D-New York, is stepping back into the private sector, joining the public policy practice at Squire Patton Boggs in February. After beginning as a member of the New York State Assembly in 1987, Crowley joined the House of Representatives in 1999, became vice chair of the House Democratic Caucus in 2013, then Caucus chair four years later, making him the fourth-ranking Democrat in the House. Crowley was a potential successor to Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California, before losing to a primary challenger, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
During his time in the House, Crowley served on the Ways and Means, Financial Services and Foreign Affairs committees.
