Baker Botts led the briefing and presented oral argument on behalf of six major car and technology manufacturing companies—Clarion, Ford, GM, FCA, Denso and Mitsubishi—in securing a landmark copyright victory in Alliance of Artists and Recording Companies v. Denso International America. A joint-defense group comprising six large law firms chose Scott Keller to lead this appeal. He persuaded the D.C. Circuit to reject, by a unanimous 3-0 vote, the plaintiff’s claims seeking substantial sums in potential damages and royalties in this long-running dispute under the complex federal Audio Home Recording Act.
