Hints by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and predictions of additional scrutiny and required disclosure are coming to fruition with the new rules outlined by SEC Chair Gary Gensler.
Throughout Gensler’s tenure, there has been a steady stream of indications that the regulator has a strong and justified desire to increase transparency, market efficiency, and oversight into private investment funds. Early into 2022, the SEC has already taken tangible steps to achieve these goals and protect everyday, less-sophisticated investors.
