A severe discrepancy exists between the starting pay of New York lawyers who work for organizations that provide civil legal services to low-income individuals, and government attorneys who do similar work, a white paper published by a coalition of advocacy groups on Monday claims.

The study by the New York Legal Services Coalition was augmented by another round of criticism directed at the Hochul administration, for its proposed budget transfer of $100 million from the Interest on Lawyers Account into the state general fund.
