The road to the landmark 2015 ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges is paved with court battles over marriage equality fought through many years, in venues across the country.
A number of these battles were waged by plaintiffs who simultaneously belonged to two groups who have weathered immense discrimination throughout American history–Asian American Pacific Islanders who are members of the LGBTQ+ community.
