John Fontaine Keenan, a Senior U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of New York, died on Sunday. He was 94.
He died at his Bronx home in his sleep, his former law clerk Sharon McCarthy confirmed.
Hailed as a "giant of the criminal bar," Keenan, 94, was nominated to the federal judiciary by former President Ronald Reagan in 1983 and took his place on the Southern District bench that year.
