More Awards We'd Like to See

There are “best of lists” for everything these days—sport, entertainment, etc. But I’ve always wondered where is the list recognizing the best the legal system has to offer? Never fear—here is my own 2021 Awards We’d Like to See:

For the “Truth in Lawyer Advertising” Award, this year’s winner is Pennsylvania criminal defense lawyer Daniel Muessig. The 39-year-old attorney achieved viral fame in 2014 with his YouTube videos depicting staged crimes with Muessig proudly announcing that he was the lawyer “Pittsburgh criminals hire when they commit crimes.” Muessig’s tag line in the ad was “Trust me, I may have a law degree, but I think like a criminal!” Well, that turned out to be true in more ways than one when Muessig was nailed in a drug trafficking arrest by the FBI, in which Muessig pleaded guilty to felony charges of conspiracy to distribute over 400 pounds of marijuana. Muessig was later suspended from the practice of law. Daniel, we understand that you won’t be able to make it to the awards ceremony; you just keep working on those license plates.
