A homeowners association in Denton County and its property manager were charged with race-based housing discrimination in the week preceding President Joe Biden’s exit from office.

The Providence HOA in Providence Village did amend its ban on Section 8 housing vouchers after the Texas Legislature passed a law, effective Sept. 1, 2023, that prohibited associations from restricting landlord’s choice of tenants based on source of income. But the HUD Determination of Reasonable Cause and No Reasonable Cause concluded complainants had already suffered harm, and the amendment did not go far enough.
