Legislative Democrats have reached an agreement to provide $50 million to the state Department of Justice and legal aid organizations as California prepares for a potentially hostile Trump administration.

The deal gives $25 million and broad authority to Attorney General Rob Bonta to defend the state “against enforcement and legal actions taken by the federal government” and to file his own lawsuits challenging incoming President Donald Trump in court.
