California law firms experienced stronger growth than expected between 2023 and 2024, and most say staffing is likely to remain steady over the coming year, according to results from The Recorder’s annual survey of Managing Partners.
More than half of respondents, 58%, said the number of attorneys at their firms had grown during the year ending July 1, 2024, with 35% saying their firms had grown “significantly,” or by more than 10%. The remainder of firms said staffing levels had stayed even or shrunk only slightly during the period.
